New California Shows!

Hey guys! It's been hard to get to as many states as of late with my full-time job on "Chelsea Lately," but I will be venturing outside of L.A. in a few weeks to do some shows in other places in California. On Thursday, May 19th, I will be performing in San Diego. Saturday night, May 21st I will be in Santa Cruz. And on Sunday afternoon, May 22nd I will be in San Francisco. Chelsea Lately

So there's some good news and bad news. The good news is that I'm the newest full time writer on Chelsea Lately! It's been a super awesome experience so far and working with Chelsea Handler is a blast. The bad news is that I've had to cancel 11 of my standup shows all across the U.S. this spring. But I will be taking some road shows when I can. In the meantime, you can catch me from time to time appearing on Chelsea Lately. Tune in weeknights at 11:00 on E!

My Thoughts On Happiness

Happiness. What is that? Is it something you’re born with? Is it something you work for? It seems to come easier for some and be a constant struggle for others. Just this week five young people committed suicide from the taunting they faced for being gay. One of my comedy heroes, Greg Giraldo, accidentally overdosed on prescription medicine and died. Happiness. It was not there when they needed it most.

If you are not born with it, you can find it later on. It’s not always constant. Sometimes it slips through your fingers, sometimes you find a way to destroy it, and sometimes it’s pried away by someone else who is desperate to find it themselves. Your natural reaction is to hold tight to it, to never give it away again, but you do, and you should. It’s then that you find a happiness much greater than you could have ever imagined. Does it last? Not always. That’s when you’re introduced to pain. It’s the opposite of happiness, and the thing most feared by human beings. It can be crippling. It then becomes the biggest obstacle between you and finding that happiness once again.

I consider myself to be a happy person. Maybe I have a predisposition to it, I don’t know. There was no one in my youth who robbed me of it, making the path to happiness that much harder. I certainly didn’t have it easy. There were times when happiness seemed so unreachable that I was certain I’d never see it again. Divorce, death, heartbreak, depression, loss, pain – they were no strangers. Some days it seemed easier to sit in that pain – it required no work, and it was more than happy to sit with me.

How you get back to that happiness is different for everyone. Sometimes you look to others to fill the void, but that can be fleeting. If it is a choice between your happiness and theirs, you don’t always win. In fact, you often lose. It is cliché, yes, but the only person who can bring you happiness is yourself. The people who find it are the people who can equally share it and get it back in return. Otherwise, you’re just gripping on to something or someone in hopes that you’ll have happiness too, but in reality you’re just dangling until you fall or are cut loose.

As I’ve gotten older, happiness has been with me more often than not. I’ve experienced pain, yes. And heartbreak has reared its ugly head, but I decided a long time ago to be happy. Everyday that I wake up, I make a conscious effort to see and truly believe that the best has yet to come. If there is pain, it is allowed to visit temporarily only so I can learn, but it is then promptly shown the door where it is hit in the ass on the way out. In the end, I am stronger for it and that much happier as a result.

I know there will be people who come into my life who try to take some of that happiness away and I may let them, but it will not be for long. My wagon is hitched to the stars. (I realize that’s not the actual context of that expression, but it works). If other people want to get on that wagon with me, I will gladly make room and we will fly high together! But those who weigh it down will be left behind. It is the only way I can truly be happy. Yes, happiness. True happiness. It is a choice and it is for me.

Hey guys! I've been really crappy about updating this thing. So sorry 'bout that! I will try and do better. I wanted to let you know that I'll be performing at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas this Wednesday at 8:30. It's in the Worsham Performance Hall. I'm doing an hour of standup. I'm super excited to say that I am a part of the Montreal Just For Laughs Festival this year. I was chosen to be in the New Faces showcase. It's such an honor to be here performing in the same festival as some of the biggest comics in the world. All the comics I've met so far have been really nice and supportive. I'm excited to announce that I have just been made a paid regular at the World Famous Comedy Store! It is an honor bestowed to only a select few including such alumni as Dave Chappelle, Eddie Murphy, Roseanne Barr, Richard Pryor, Jerry Seinfeld, and Robin Williams. Who Is Fortune Feimster?

Fortune Feimster, the loveable Southern comic with great hair and an ever better personality, moved to Los Angeles in 2003 to pursue comedy after graduating Summa Cum Laude from Peace College in North Carolina. But first she made a pit stop into Sevilla, Spain for a year where she taught English, studied Spanish, and backpacked all over Western Europe. Even in a place where people spoke a different language, Fortune was able to tap into the universal gift of laughter.

Upon arriving to L.A., Fortune became a columnist for Beck/Smith Hollywood and wrote for such outlets as the Creators Syndicate, netscape.com, and the NY Daily News. Having studied acting in college, she decided to take an improv class for fun, but soon a budding comedian was born!

She has since taken the Los Angeles comedy scene by storm and is now making her TV debut on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.” Not only is Fortune becoming known for her unique style of storytelling in standup, but she is also a highly accomplished sketch comedian and improv artist – all of which make her live shows unlike any other.

Fortune is a regular at the Hollywood Improv and the World Famous Comedy Store, and is a member of the prestigious Groundlings Sunday Company, which boasts such alumni as Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig, and Lisa Kudrow. She is also a regular contributor to AfterEllen.com. In her spare time, she performs with the sketch comedy and improv groups Gas Money, RDJRJR, and Honorable Discharge – all of whom have performed in various national comedy festivals over the last few years.

While Fortune has already made tremendous strides in a short period of time, there’s no doubt this is only the beginning of what’s to come!
